From Sally Armitage…
I found this race on my hunt for a fast flat mid-August 10k to give my race legs a warm up before Golden Ball 20 at the end of the month. I’d never heard of it before, but a quick look at previous year’s results showed me that it’s popular with fast runners and a look at the elevation profile confirmed it was a fast course. Chip timed, single lap, 100% road with the only hills being over motorway bridges. I didn’t go with any expectations, previous year’s female winners had finished in around 35 minutes, and last year an F45 finished in 37 minutes so I went just aiming for a sub 40 finish time. However, the faster runners didn’t come this year and after passing a Bury Harrier just after the half way point I went into 2nd place, I never look over my shoulder when I’m racing as I’d rather not know if there’s someone right on my tail, and it’s a good job I didn’t because afterwards I realised she’d stayed only seconds behind me right until the finish! The prize was a generous £50 cash, which is fairly rare and will go straight towards fixing my washing machine!
