West Yorkshire XC League – Cliffe Castle, Keighley
As summer fades, the cross-country season is underway! The first race of the West Yorkshire XC League took place on Sunday at Cliffe Castle, Keighley.
The athletes faced a challenging course that lured them into a false sense of security with a relatively flat start before hitting a steep climb but of course what goes up must come down and a fast descent it was! Conditions were exceptionally good for XC, with little mud, no rain and plenty of sunshine.
Nine of our Juniors have signed up for the league and they all put in brilliant performances, laying strong foundations for the remaining four races:
West Yorkshire XC League Results
U12 Girls
Alicia Brett stormed home in an excellent 2nd place, followed by Lerryn O’Neill in 12th.
U14 Girls
Cara Millar had a brilliant run to finish in 5th place, with Millie Houlbrook finishing in 23rd.
U14 Boys
Leo Freer led the team home in 13th place, closely followed by teammates Ethan Pickwoad in 15th and Thomas Bailey in 17th.
Their combined efforts secured 5th place for the U14 Boys team – fantastic work! (Three athletes are required to score as a team.)

Rounding off our XC team, Joseph Bentham took on the highly competitive U18 Men’s race and finished in an excellent 12th place.
