JIH Results Roundup

Week Ending: 06.09.26

It’s been an exceptionally busy week for our Juniors! With the school holidays coming to an end, a new term (and even new schools for some) getting underway, there was certainly no shortage of things to keep everybody busy … and then there was the small matter of racing … lots of it! From Fell Races and Parkruns to Relays, our Juniors have been out in force, clocking up some fantastic performances along the way.

⛰️ REETH SHOW

The annual Reeth Show took place on Bank Holiday Monday, incorporating the next race in the BOFRA Championship League.

Three of our Juniors were competing (and this marked the start of a particularly busy week for all three)!

Michael Moore was the 1st U14 Boy, finishing in 13:31 and in the U12 race, Isobel Moore had a fantastic run to finish 1st Girl in 09:51, with Thomas Bailey finishing 4th Boy.

A great start to the week!

⛰️ KILNSEY SHOW

The ever-popular Kilnsey Show and Sports, set against the spectacular backdrop of Kilnsey Crag, attracts competitors from all over Wharfedale keen to take on the mighty Kilnsey Crag Fell Race – with equally challenging Junior Fell Races also on offer.

Having raced at Reeth the previous day, Michael Moore was back in action and finished 3rd U14 Boy.

In the U12 Boys, Thomas Bailey was our first Junior home in 5th, followed by Harris Poulter in 12th place and Oscar Spooner in 19th place.

Isobel Moore had another fantastic run, finishing 1st Girl, in the U12 Race, with Georgia Poulter finishing 10th.

⛰️ MUKER SHOW

Oscar Spooner was our only Junior taking part in the Muker Show Fell Races and put in another solid performance, finishing 7th Boy in the U12 Race.

⛰️ BURNSALL FELL RACE

The final fell race of the week was the Burnsall Fell Race, which also happened to be the next counter in the JIH Fell & XC League.

With nine Juniors competing, there were plenty of fantastic performances and some podium finishes to celebrate!

The routes for all age groups follow the Senior route over varying shorter distances, with a steady climb from Burnsall through the fields before turning around and retracing their steps for a long, steady descent.

Podium places went to:

🥇Michael Moore – 1st U14 Boy
🥇Isobel Moore – 1st U12 Girl
🥈Joseph Bentham – 2nd U17 Boy

In the U9 race Georgia Poulter finished as 8th Girl and Joshua Steward was 9th Boy.

In the U12 Boys, Thomas Bailey was our first Junior home in 9th, followed by Archie Hallworth (11th), Harris Poulter (19th) and Oscar Spooner (31st).

Well Done to everybody who took on the Burnsall challenge!

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ ILKLEY SPRINT RELAYS

The annual Ilkley Sprint Relays always mark the start of the new school year and attract competitors from local clubs and schools alike.

They’re a brilliant opportunity to compete as part of a team in a fun, friendly atmosphere — and it was fantastic to see so many of our Juniors taking part with their friends and rivals.

A huge WELL DONE to everybody who competed and a big thank you to all the organisers and volunteers who worked so hard to put on such a great event.

🏃 PARKRUN ROUNDUP

Four different Parkruns, eight Parkrunners, Personal Bests and Age Category Firsts – plenty more to celebrate!

🌳 East Holmes Field

Leo Freer was our first Junior home, finishing in 22:24 and taking 1st JM11-14.

He was closely followed by:

Harvey Morgan – 23:56
Daisy Lowe – 28:56
Georgia Poulter – 32:32 PB

🌳 Roberts Park

Max Hebbron finished the two laps of Roberts Park Parkrun in 25:03.

🌲 Chevin Forest

Sibling rivalry was very much in force at Chevin Forest, where Michael Moore and Isobel Moore both finished 1st in their respective age categories – JM11-14 and JW10 – and incredibly, they finished just one second apart!

🥇 Michael Moore – 23:02
🥇 Isobel Moore – 23:03

Well done to both of you – although we’re not sure who has got the bragging rights in the Moore household this week!

🌳 Cliffe Castle

Lerryn O’Neill tackled the long, steep hill at Cliffe Castle and came away with a fantastic result – 3rd Female and 1st JW10 in 23:14.

🌳 Riverside Gardens Junior Parkrun

On Sunday, there were some great results from everybody at Riverside Gardens Junior Parkrun:

3rd – Lerryn O’Neill
6th – Arthur Heppell
16th – Joshua Steward
18th – Wilbur Smith

Well done to all four!

🎉 AND FINALLY…

Wow – what a week of racing!

Some of you have managed to double up, treble up and seemingly fit racing into every available corner of the school holidays!

Perhaps this week will be a little quieter… although, knowing our Juniors, we’re not holding our breath!

As always, if we’ve missed your result, please let us know and we’ll make sure your achievements are included in the next Results Roundup.

Until next time… keep on running – but don’t forget to do your school homework! 📚😄

Well done everybody!
