From Sally Armitage…
Entered in an unashamed bid to claim the club 10k age category record, this race didn’t disappoint. Fast and flat, 100% road, it has oodles of PB potential. Strangely enough it doesn’t sell out in five minutes flat like some of these races do, despite only having 350 places available.
A mild breeze was forecast but it didn’t eventuate, conditions were perfect, aside from some water on the road, actually quite a lot of water on the road! Running through my first ‘puddle’ at 1.5k I wondered if a fast 10k wasn’t going to happen after all, my feet immediately felt about 3lb heavier, but I don’t think it impacted performance actually. The benefits of light shoes are they drain away water quickly!
I surprised myself with my time, I expected to finish somewhere between 38-40 minutes, I hadn’t dared believe I might dip under 38! Every second counts! Grateful to have found a strong ‘pack’ to run with, I’m sure they pulled me along. This is definitely a race for PB hunters.
