Proverbial wisdom has it that we should take the rough with the smooth but I’ll reserve judgement on that until I see how my legs are tomorrow morning having gone from the ‘flat as a pancake’ York EvenSplits 5k on Friday evening to the tussocks and stones of the Settle Hills Fell Race on Sunday morning.

Whatever toll the body has taken, it was a great privilege to be a part of events with two stupendous performances by fellow Harriers. Mark Hall first v60 with, what I believe to be a new age-group club record of, 17m 51s at York, and Oli Murphy winning outright at Settle in 54m 02s (despite a 300m detour).

I managed 23m 20s at York and 84m 05s at Settle first v70, and 46 out of 71, almost equidistant between Dick Waddington 32nd in 79m 01s and Helen Waddington 53rd (third LV50) in 90m 01s. At York, first was Dan Garbutt (Durham City) in 15m 22s and first lady was Sarah Potter (Leeds City) in 16m 47s. Phillipa Williams (Dark Peak) was first lady in 57m 39s.
