From Hilda Coulsey…
A race with a friendly feel, strong turnouts from local clubs, plenty of marshals and support.
Not having done this one I thought I should. With plenty of car parking on site at the local football club and kart track and the race HQ in the club house it was well set up (a slight concern re parking on waterlogged grass did not become an issue).
The route starts on the kart track and out onto local streets, not traffic-free but well-marshalled. The surprise was the extent of the hill in what was known as a fast 5 miler. Thanks to Mark Hall for recommending a warm up run out to recce which Jane and I did, lovely seeing Mark and Beth on their way back. Obviously an up comes back down and the second half of the race is fast. I struggled with this but that is to do with my present running status. The last mile is back into the stadium, a run through the finish line then a circuit of the track to finally finish – phew it’s a good job we knew this beforehand.
Congratulations to Mark Hall and Jane McCarthy; they were very able to take advantage of the route, Mark bettering his previous IH M60 5-mile record and Jane taking the F50 record.
