Saturday was a special day in the Bennett household as my son Guy was getting married to Jen. It was especially exciting as the day started at Witton Park, close to the wedding venue, with a parkrun. Many of Jen’s running club friends, dressed in their running finery, travelled from Manchester to join in. Recent rain made it potentially slippery, especially through the woods on this two-lapper undulating trail course with a hill named the Beast. Due to events later in the day, I decided to set off steadily so as not to incur any injuries. However, partway through the first lap, I passed a marshall who I heard say: “first lady”. Knowing another a lady was very close behind it did rather encourage me to be a little less cautious and push it on more than I’d intended to maintain this position. Despite some mud and roots and dodgy parts, we all finished unscathed to enjoy a celebratory drink at the finish.
