Wilmslow Summer 10k – Sun 9 Jul

From Beth Massey…

Once again in search of a decent road race, Mark (Hall) and I headed south on Sunday, this time to Cheshire and the Wilmslow Summer 10km. This is a one lap course run entirely on closed roads and is relatively flat. The race is well organized and attracts a big field with over 2500 finishers. Unfortunately, the promised ‘lightening fast first 5k’ led to some over-enthusiastic pace setting on my part and I faded badly in the final 3k to finish in a slightly disappointing 42.01 (3rd FV50). Mark on the other hand paced his race perfectly finishing in an excellent 36.33 and 2nd V60. Winners were Jonny Mellor (U/A) in 28.49 and Gemma Steele (Charnwood AC) in 33.11

(Edit: this is a new M60 10k club record, beating Geoff Howard’s time of 37:53 which has stood since 2007. In addition it is a new M55 record, taking 20 seconds off Henry Heavisides’ time from 2010).
