From Sally Armitage…
This race challenged me to my core. The first half was a delight, slightly downhill, pushed along by a gentle tail wind. Then…. it changed. I’d seen the elevation profile and knew the second half was going to be tough, but it felt more brutal than I’d anticipated. The headwind depleted me of all my kapow. My slowing pace meant people were passing me which is always a kick in the guts. I’m not sure how but I managed a 3 second half marathon PB, but the sheer pain of the second half has zapped my PB joy. Maybe I’ll celebrate a little tomorrow, when my tummy’s stopped cramping, the headache has gone and the post-race fatigue has lifted.
