Williamson Park Half Marathon – Sun 9 Feb 2025

From Sally Armitage…

Yesterday I drove over to Lancaster for a hilly road half marathon, part of the Lancaster Race Series of events. I needed to use some race vouchers I’d won early last year that were due to expire soon, and this race coincided well with where I’m at with my training right now (trying to claw back some fitness after a rest spell throughout December!)  I love the events from this race organiser because you can enter any of their races on the day, the downside is that they’re never on closed roads which can often be a little scary, a number of cars whizzed past me less than an arms length away yesterday.

Starting in Williamson Park and winding through (and up and down!) the beautiful Lune Valley countryside before returning to finish back at the park. I’d looked at the elevation profile and was well aware it was hillier than I’ve ever raced before over the half marathon distance, 452m in total, which, in hindsight, made me run the first half a little over cautiously, though this paid dividends in the second half when I still had plenty of kapow in the bank. The second half was also wind powered which made it even more fun after fighting a gale head-on AND ridiculous climbs in the first half! My prize was more race vouchers! Which are actually really useful, I’m planning on using them for Trimpwell 20 in 4 weeks time, wish me luck!
