I entered this race on an early bird offer in October then spent Nov-March nursing an injury and only decided I would probably be ok to take part couple of weeks before. Having recced the course with Jonathan Turner (thank you) I knew exactly what I was letting myself in for – 3 climbs up (and down) the Chevin and a seriously muddy course in parts. Apart from nearly missing the start (only saved by my car being parked meters from it) by thinking it set off at 11:30 instead of 11AM all felt better than the recce though I did pick up a nasty bramble scratch early on which made for some concerned marshals. Nick H and I ran more or less together for about 2/3rds of the race but he had more energy in reserve up the last hill and I couldn’t catch him back up after that! Not deterred by last year, Dave Robson was back for a second attempt and claimed a brilliant 2nd place to Julian Hood of Skipton. John Jackson and Meredith Bailey also had great races for Ilkley.
