From Dave Robson…
In my bid to do some different races this year, I decided to give this one a go. Billed as the ‘worst possible scenario when touring the Chevin’, it looked a decent challenge at 650 metres climbing over a 9-mile course. Race HQ was the Black Horse in Otley and the £8 entry fee included a free pint at the end!
Despite this tempting offer I was surprised to see a small field of only around 60 with no fellow Ilkley Harriers.
The course was mostly well marked, with a few opportunities to go slightly wrong, but a map was provided so no real excuses.
Overall, I thought it was an excellent, friendly, local race, with plenty of mud, steep climbs and quick descents. I would definitely recommend it, if that’s your sort of thing.
I managed to finish in 7th place overall and 2nd in age category with my newly acquired V50 status.
