From Alison Weston…
The Three Shires Fell race is one of the long classic lakeland races – 12.5 miles with about 4000ft climbing starting from Little Langdale and including Wetherlam, Swirl How, Pike of Blisco and Lingmoor.
My luck ran out on the Three Shires race this weekend though – I have done it lots of times before and it has always been good weather but this year it was very wet, windy and misty (until near the end) and lots of runners, including myself, did a bit of wandering off route at the top of Wetherlam. I ended up visiting the summit twice and adding in some extra unwelcome climbing!
161 runners finished with 25 retiring or being timed out at Three Shires stone.
The winner, Finley Grant did not appear to have any navigational problems though and finished in a brilliant time of 1hr 55.
Paul Carman had a good race to finish in 74th position in 2 hrs 48 and I finished in 104th in 3hr 23 (3rd LV50).
A lovely race and highly recommended, with a really nice pub at the end!
