It’s a fast one! Don’t take my word for it, look at the stats – 5% of the field completed in under an hour and if you were to scrape under this magical milestone you may feel slightly aggrieved to have only finished in 41st place!

I signed up late, three days before, which I find far more agreeable than many races where a six-month forward commitment can be necessary. In fact places were still available on the day so an opportunity to check the weather beforehand.

The race starts with two laps around Tadcaster town centre before heading out into the countryside. Apart from a short stretch along the A64, the route follows country lanes that are closed to traffic. Apart from a few gentle inclines it’s all relatively flat. For someone usually more at home on the fells, I couldn’t use the excuse of dropping the pace for the hills or enjoying a few cheat miles on the downhills. This was full on raw pace. The race to do for a PB.

Well done to all Harriers taking part. Particularly to Ed who finished in fourth place with a staggeringly quick time (shame he was too young to collect his alcoholic prize) and Dave who broke the 1hr mark for the first time and claimed 2nd MV45.
