Stanbury Splash – Sun 18 Jan 2026

From John Hayes…

This is a tough course with some quite tricky climbs and descents. And, of course, quite a lot of splashing! The “Splash” in the title refers, I assume, to the main river crossing which is made twice. On the return leg, the approach to this was made more eventful by a young lad who hurtled past me at high speed before sliding to the ground in dramatic fashion on his knees. “Nice skiing” I remarked as I ran past him, splayed out in the mud. He told me his sport was football. “Nice goal celebration then” I said. It did vaguely resemble that. Some footballers do back flips and slide majestically across the turf, looking cool. Others get their feet tangled up and fall in a twisted heap. His performance was in the latter category. But in true fell runner style he picked himself up and on he went. And we had a laugh about it at the finish.

All the Harriers survived unscathed I think.
