If you are looking for a low-key road race, taking in some beautiful Yorkshire Dales scenery with incredible views, this is the race for you (unless you aren’t a fan of a hill or two)!
Organised by It’s Grim Up North, with 10km, 10 mile and half marathon distance options available, this race starts and finishes in Settle, and follows an out-and-back course along Ribblesdale.
Despite getting very cold as we waited for the race to start, we were very lucky as the sun broke through the mist and we ran in glorious sunshine for the whole race, the problem then being, that I at least, had overdressed and was at risk of overheating! Luckily, I was able to drop my hat, gloves, fleece buff and windproof jacket at an early water station, which I was then able to collect on my return; one advantage of an out-and-back course!
Jane McCarthy had a superb run, finishing as second lady and in fifth place overall. Rebecca Mon-Williams also had a great run, finishing as third lady. Sarah Hayes also did the Harriers proud at this event.
This race is definitely to be recommended, as we all left with a medal, a tee-shirt, crisps, a can of pop, a Cadbury’s creme egg, and we didn’t even avail of the bacon butty available to all finishers!
