From Alison Weston…
Nea and I took part in the Saunders Mountain Marathon last weekend. We started near Coniston Copper mines and the overnight camp was in the Duddon Valley.
We didn’t really make a plan at the start (perhaps we should have) but just got going finding as many controls as we could in quite misty weather initially. Really pleased with our score of 290 on day 1 and 2nd ladies team. And loved my new tent I can now sit up in even if it isn’t super ultra light!
Day 2 was not so good though. We had to try to go further afield as we already had the controls closer to the camp and the finish. We made some early mistakes and realised we had been too ambitious by far (and didn’t see any other runners for almost 5 hours!). Managed only 140 points with a sprint finish to make it back in the 5 hour time limit and 8th ladies team overall.
A great event to do with friends or family!

From John Hayes…
I teamed up with Sarah’s brother Martyn to do the “Fairfield” (score) course. Unusually for us, we picked a good route on both days and didn’t get lost We came 16th overall with 595 points overall (335 on day one and 260 on day two). My only error was to weigh myself down with too much food. But that’s better than running out and being hungry I suppose!
