Roundhay parkrun – Sat 27 Nov

I’m a fair weather runner at the best of times and often found moaning about the cold during runs! However today was my 50th parkrun so I dragged myself out of bed ready to face Storm Arwen. Most of the local parkruns were cancelled due to the weather but Roundhay was running their winter route so I thought I’d give it a try. 222 brave runners lined up against howling winds to run through the snow and ice for a 3 lap course round Soldiers’ field. It was all on grass and felt like a good old school cross country race with water jumps (icey puddles) to contend with. Out of 50 parkruns and 20 different locations I managed my slowest ever time today (excluding the one time I arrived late and missed the start!). But today was a day where I was just happy to finish! An impressive 19 volunteers turned out in the cold to put on the race for us, so big thanks to them. I think it must have been even more challenging standing still than running the course! Definitely looks like a good parkrun for the winter months as if they ran today I can’t imagine the conditions needed to cancel!
