You’ll no doubt read lots of reports about Harriers doing bonkers things in the Lake District this past weekend, like self-supported Bob Graham’s & 17-mile 6500-feet English Championship Borrowdale Fell Races that take in Scafell Pike.
Well not all Fell racing is like that. Take the Round Hill Fell Race for instance, only a 20 min drive from home, less than 14km in distance & no more than 350m in ascent. It starts at 11:00 so enough time for a well-earned Sunday lie-in, then decide if you want to enter on the day & can be back home for Sunday lunch.
Five intrepid Harriers took part this year – Rachel Carter, Fraser Arnott, Geoffrey White, Colm McCann and Peter Roll.
Rachel was the first lady home, though we suspect this was driven by anxiety of thoughts of mislaying car keys – that were soon found.
Fraser banished his demons from previous races with a fantastic fourth place.
The whole event is very low key, an ideal entry level fell race, with only 55 competitors this year & good bunnage afterwards. So as a counter to the Harriers league what’s not to like?
