Rombald’s Stride – Sat 4 Feb

The Rombald’s Stride is – for me – one of the highlights on the local race calendar. Judging by the large Harriers turnout, it is a favourite of many others too. As the results show, there were some fabulous club performances including Jane McCarthy scooping the 1st female prize and many others picking up the top age category places. The established route is pretty well trodden, and nobody (except my dad, Spike) thinks much of my alternative route which involves contouring along various little paths after White Wells. In fact, this “clever” route doesn’t seem any quicker, but I do it anyway just for fun. Except it wasn’t so much fun this year as my legs started cramping up. I grimaced and kept going, and at the next refreshment tent above Burley, there was an enthusiastic young boy who thrust a bowl of peanuts towards me. This was just what I needed so a huge thank you goes to him and, indeed, the large army of volunteers who make this such a special well run event.
