From Dave Foyston…
Myself, Matt Cox and Jonathan Turner headed to Roberts Park at Saltaire to take part in their parkrun.
The morning was near perfect conditions – the sun was shining with little to no wind, 303 runners had turned up which was lovely to see.
The course starts on a nice tarmacked track and weaves its way around the park before you enter the nature reserve adding a bit of spice to the course; you have to navigate a rough path and sections of undulating grass before exiting via a tight snicket on a hill as you complete nearly two laps of the course to make the 5K.
It became clear right from the start that Matt was up for a fast one and appears to be getting his form back which is good news for the club.
We started and I took the lead initially before Matt passed me at about the 1km mark, we now headed into the nature reserve – myself and Matt had now pulled out quite a large gap on the runners behind.
No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t reel Matt back in who went on to finish in first, in a fantastic time of 17:38 with myself coming in 2nd place in a time of 18:04, with Jonathan finishing in 6th place in a time of 19:28.
A big thanks to the parkrun volunteers, all 27 of them.
