Back in February 2021, I was admitted to the cardiology ward with multiple persistent ectopic beats and begging for a pacemaker. I was often feeling faint and the unpredictability of it made me a very bad patient. I was ashamed how badly I took it. I sat and cried after a real struggle walking on the moor. After an MRI scan I was on the waiting list for an ablation.
As time drew on I realised I felt much better. No therapy. No drugs.Just a plea to the almighty.
So when our, son’s ( Jonathan) firm Clarion we’re backing the inaugural Leeds Marathon, well, here’s to you cardiac muscle! Would the ticker oblige ?
Jonathan and I knew it was going to be tough with the gentle climbs and the steeper Otley to Dyneley Arms stretch so we recce’d a fair stretch . Of course, that hill was still a mountain on the day.
It was so much more than running. To see so many people running on a tough marathon course to raise money for MND . To see Kevin Sinfield push Rob Burrow around that course and Rob to be able to take the ride, was something to remember and be in awe of. It shamed me to remember my heart wobbles. What incredible heroes! What a very special day.
Thank you everyone who came to cheer us on and make the atmosphere so encouraging.
