When we found out that the Princeton Half Marathon was taking place during our visit across to see our son, Ruaridh, it felt rude for at least one of us not to take part. In the event it was a mother and son affair, with Mark offering lots of on-course cheer and encouragement.

The route itself was a sightseers’ delight, taking us past the Princeton Battlefield, Einstein’s House, the Institute for Advance Study (think Oppenheimer), Princeton University, Lake Carnegie, and along many of the towns New England streets looking gorgeous in the fall colours.

Although the course was predominantly road, there was a nice bit of trail thrown in for good measure, along with a few hills. On-course support was vocal and enthusiastic, in a way only the Americans can be. I love it. 

The race started at 7am on a very chilly, crisp, clear morning. So all done and dusted by breakfast. Perfect.
