From Hilda Coulsey…
I signed up for this race on holiday planning to enjoy a lovely seaside evening on the Friday and I would volunteer for the beach parkrun on Saturday morning. It was a super evening and we came to the finish as the sun was low, setting over the sea, a beautiful scene.
I tend to imagine that the course along the coast would be flat, out towards Portstewart and back to the promenade in Portrush. However when the course description says starting at the prom then up Blackrock hill, a bit more up then some down and more up, finally down and back I knew I was in for a bit more of a challenge as if 8k isn’t challenge enough, basically trying to maintain 5k pace for longer! (exaggeration, I know, as this is UTMB week, the Yorkshireman etc etc). Lots of local running club members were taking part and the atmosphere before and afterwards was chatty and friendly.
I was happy with the result, a new pb/IH record and I can look forward to volunteering at the parkrun on Saturday.
