Pike O’Blisco – Sat 27 Jul

From Alison Weston…

This was the 6th and last race of the English fell championships and also the stand alone short British Championship race.

Starting from Stool End farm the race went straight up Pike O’ Blisco after about 1 km on the road. The usual walkers way up was taken by the majority of runners but then it was a bit of a free for all on the descent, depending on whether you wanted grass, the path or to forge your way through the bracken!

The men and women had separate races which meant we could relax and enjoy watching the men after ours was over.

Ben was leading the main pack straight from the starting field and was in a good second place when we saw him again after the descent and just before hitting the road. Oli looked really strong in 12th place too.

The race was won by Matthew Knowles from Lancaster University in 37:06 but second place for Ben secured his overall win of the English fell championship series. He also gained silver in the British race too. Quite a feat!

Jane race a great race securing her 3rd overall placing in the LV50 of the English championship and bronze in the British race. I was very surprised when I finished 3rd in the LV55 British race having unknowingly overtaking quite a few on the way down!

A highly recommended race which is usually held on an evening in July time.
