Pen-y-ghent looked its glorious best on Saturday afternoon as 146 of us gathered to see what impression we could make on its flanks. A well organised typically welcoming fell event (AM 6.8m & 1,590’). The dry conditions meant firm footing and that the expected boggy bits on the gradual rise to the ‘sharp end’ and then during the steep, then steady, descent towards Hull Pot were non-existent. I finished 108th in 80m 25s, behind great runs from fellow Harriers Simon Bell, fifth in 53m 28s, and Jim Ryder, 46th in 65m 4s, and delighted to be a fell runner again after a bit of a break and to take first v70 within the last mile.
Jonathan Cox of Eden Runners was first man in 48m 51s. Emma Clayton of Bingley was first lady in 56m 50s.
