From Adam Gerrish…
This year the Pen Y Ghent Fell Race also hosted the Inter-Counties Mountain race alongside the British Mountain Running Championships. This meant it was packed full of the best fell runners from around the country. Heavy thunderstorms unfortunately meant that the women got a soaking as they set off for the 12.2km (612m climb) route, which had been altered this year to include more distance and climbing than usual.
Luckily the rain had stopped before the men then set off 30 mins later along the same route. Yorkshire came away with both the men’s and women’s team prize, with Nathan (6th), Jack (14th), Sam (24th), and Oli (38th) all in the top 40 of an elite field. Paul Disney and I enjoyed our own battle at the more leisurely end of the field, both coming home in 1 hr 18.
