Otley Chevin Fell Race – Wed 1 Jun

From Jeff Green…

The 44th running of the Otley Chevin Fell Race was held on a pleasantly mild evening. It’s short (2.8 miles according to most people’s Strava) and very sharp (about 700ft of climb) where all but the top runners end up walking before they reach the top of the steps. There’s a brief flattish stretch and another short climb before you finally get to the top, where you could risk rewarding yourself with a brief squint at the Surprise View. The descent is almost as tough as the climb – especially when you hit the tarmac again and are wearing fell shoes with no cushioning – but at least by that stage you’re nearly back.

There were a number of notable Harrier performances: Nathan Edmondson winning overall with a time that was only 11s off Ian Holmes’ record of 21 years; Emily Gibbins -3rd Female, Steven Gott – 1st MV40, Alison Weston – 1st FV50, Jeff Green – 1st MV50. Prize-giving was held at the Black Horse and there was even some free pizza!
