From Helen Waddington…
This race is the shortest of the 5 main UTMB events and loosely follows about 57 km of the UTMB route and has about 3,500m of elevation gain. A brand new course for 2022 included a trip up the Col De Balme located on the border between Switzerland and France which got progressively more technical towards the top of the col including a nice vertiginous catwalk which focussed everyone’s attention. As has been the case for many races/runners this year the weather was a bit hot with cloudless skies which made the views spectacular, but nausea set in on the last climb so the run down into Chamonix was an effort. The crowds in town are generous and make you feel like a winner despite all evidence to the contrary. I suspect Manuel had managed to enjoy a late lunch, quick shower and flown back to Spain by the time I got in.
