NorthowRun5 – Sun 2 June

From Sally Armitage…

An undulating 5 mile road race starting and finishing in Northowram, a small town on the outskirts of Halifax. A super little event managed by Northowram Pumas Running Club and chip timed by Racebest. I’d entered this event last year but couldn’t run due to illness so it had been a ‘provisional’ on this year’s race calendar ever since.

I’d had a scan over last year’s results to check the field size, and the competition of course! Despite it being a relatively small field, last year the first three females all finished in 32 minutes so I didn’t go with any expectations, and when Margaret Beever and Sarah Cumber came and stood next to me on the start line I knew the race would be on. However, by the top of the main climb I had taken the lead and managed to maintain that for the rest of the race, with the second lady only 27 seconds behind me, and the third lady 40 seconds behind her.

Me and Helen both agreed the hills were not as bad as expected, I think looking at the race elevation profile online always makes the hills appear worse than they are, well most of the time anyway!

[Ed: Sally doesn’t mention it but her time was a new LV45 club record for the distance]
