On Sunday morning I headed over to Melmerby in North Yorkshire.
Having been injured and not racing at all this year it was time to get going again!
I noticed this race, Melmerby 10k, and was attracted by the small field and also the late start time.
Typical… 11.30 race start time, it started to rain. It was a nice cooling rain and a fast downhill start. Small numbers allowed you to run at your own pace and not be hindered or drawn in to a too fast a start. The lanes we ran on were quiet country lanes often with the odd cowpat to add to the countryside feel.
The race was described as flat, I wouldn’t say it was flat, more undulating with a sting in the tail of an uphill finish.
I had to work hard in the last 2k as I overtook a lady who I knew was in my age category. My efforts paid off I was awarded 1st FV55 in a time of 44:50.
I didn’t see any other Harriers, apologies if I’ve missed you.
I would definitely recommend this race to all, lovely teas available after and well organised with a fun run prior to the 10k. Something for everyone.
