Manchester Marathon – Sun 3 Apr

From Sarah Hayes…

This was my first ever road marathon. I’d been wanting to do one for sometime but kept finding excuses not to. But eventually I bit the bullet and went for it! My sister-in-law, Jenny had signed up to the event so I was persuaded by her to give it a go.

The conditions were great; Bright, cool and no wind. We were set off in waves according to our predicted times and I was in the last group to get going. This resulted in a late start! I tried very hard to keep to the mantra start slow and finish strong.

I definitely achieved the first part of that wise advice…!

After the initial nerves settled I enjoyed running at a (reasonably) comfortable pace enjoying the sites of Manchester. But I found the last few miles (as I’m sure most runners do) a big effort.

There was great support all the way round. The route took various twists and turns which meant family members could easily get to cheer me and my sister in law on at various points on route which gave us a boost.

The big question is would I do another?

I’m tempted….

My time was 4 hrs 31
