From Jonathan Turner…
My first experience of the Arncliffe Gala races and hopefully the first of many. It’s a very friendly and well-organised day, with tea and cakes on the picturesque village green and a brass band playing. Lots of junior Harriers took part in the various sports and races, with Samuel Bentham winning the U17 event while Poppy Anderson was first WJun in the four-mile road race which preceded the main event. What are thought to be record turnouts of 130 seniors and 128 juniors took part in the fell races, with Ted Mason of Wharfedale Harriers claiming his first BOFRA championship win of the season in a time of 10.34 for the 2.4km route and Iain Gibbons leading us home in 13:12. It was nice to meet him as well as David and Matt – and the less said about my shambolic descending back to the village the better!
