Lews Castle Parkrun & Leanne Fund Charity 10k – Sat 3 June

From Alison Bennett…

Whilst waiting for the ferry from Stornoway on Saturday I decided to take part in the Lews Castle parkrun. There were a number of other tourists taking part in this scenic out-and-back undulating course which followed the shore before heading around trails in the park. Although we were relatively few in number I was pleased to be second female and achieve a new age category record 23:21 and age-grade record 83.08% for the event.

The previous day I had heard about the Leanne Fund Charity 10k being held at a local school and as there was time to get to the start after the parkrun, but before the ferry departed, decided to do this too. It was another undulating course, this time around the Point of Lewis. The race was won by Jonathan Fairgrieve in 35:15 and I was third lady in 49:52. Andrew took part in the 5k then we enjoyed the free lunch of soup, sandwiches and cake all provided in the school dining room before heading to the ferry terminal.
