Jack’s update from Switzerland – Sun 19 Nov

From Jack Wood…

Grüezi Mitenand…From the north east corner of Switzerland. I’ve been proudly wearing the red and green vest in a handful of races since we moved here in August. In September I took on a mountain race in Engelberg and finished 8th behind some strong Ugandan and Swiss runners. Next up was a 2nd place at the ‘Altstätten Städtlilauf‘ (a 10km circuit around a town in the Rhein valley) and a win at the Drei Länder half marathon – a route which passed through Germany and Austria on the shore of Lake Konstanz. The big target of the autumn though was Lucerne marathon which took place at the end of October. With 5 miles to go I made my move and begun a countdown of kilometer markers. The cheers from the crowds gave me a boost and I couldn’t help but imagine the late Harriers legend and former coach Pete Shields was watching from above…’this is where you learn about yourself!’ The gap to second was never more than 20s or so but I held it and was so relieved and happy to cross the line in first and take the win in 2.25. Now the weather is colder we’re looking forward to trying out some skiing and coming back to Yorkshire over Christmas.

Liebe Grüße Jack and Millie
