From Rachel Carter…
I had entered Ingleborough Mountain Race on the quiet (i.e. I hadn’t negotiated an afternoon out) a couple of months back so had actually forgotten about it until the day before when the ‘Race Instructions’ landed in my inbox on Friday AM. In the end all was good for me to run (accompanied by eldest son for support) on what was a scorching hot afternoon. Despite the heat (and lack of rain forecast) FRA kit requirements were only relaxed slightly in that we could omit waterproof trousers and gloves from the list, and also had to carry water – a no brainer for me. The race is essentially an out and back, except for the option of taking a steep grassy descent off the top to avoid the rocky crags you’ve just scrambled up, and includes a long section of rocky track in both directions between 2 walls, which was a bit like running between 2 pizza stones on this occasion. The race was set off in 5 waves, 5 mins apart so you only find out how you’ve done once back home/the day after.
