Historic fell races and prominent parkrun performances

As peak summer holiday season continues, it was a quiet week for racing, but still with some standout performances.

At the Burnsall Feast, Katie Poulter took on the classic Fell Race. This 1.5 mile race is one of the oldest fell races around, with a history stretching back over a century. Katie put in a fantastic performance to finish as third lady in a time of 22:34. Daniel Fazackerley was also in action, finishing in ninth place in 17:58.

Malham Show has been taking place for nearly 100 years, and Gawain Moore took on the rugged terrain of the Malham Fell Race. The 2.5 mile course is known for its steep climbs and technical descents. Moore finished seventh overall and second in his age category, in a time of 20:30. Three Junior Harriers also took part in the junior races, with fabulous running by all. In the U14 race Robert Brooks was second U14 boy. Both Michael Moore and Isobel Moore were competing in the U12 race with Michael finishing as second U12 boy and Isobel finishing as second U12 girl.

Many Harriers took part in parkruns up and down the country, with no less than three first place finishes. These were: Nathan Edmondson at Whitby’s Cinder Track in 15:47; Oli Murphy at Finsbury Park in 16:31; and Alex Foyn at the interestingly-named Tetbury Goods Shed in 18:34. There was also a second place finish for Michael Odell at Penrose in 18:03.

The new East Holmes Field parkrun once again had a fantastic turnout, and several Harriers finished in the top ten in their gender categories – Nick Kealey (fifth in 18:33); Steve Coy (sixth in 18:44); Martin Hartley (eighth in 19:13) and Jann Smith (ninth in 24:00). There were also top ten finishes for Steve Gott at Otley Chevin (eighth – 20:29) and Sally Malir at Lister Park (seventh in 25:06).
