Hyde Park Summer Mile – Wed 26 Jun

From Jane McCarthy…

This was my first attendance at the popular, UKA-licensed and well-organised Summer Mile event. Using a two-lap largely flat circuit in Leeds Hyde Park runners are pre-allocated into heats based on predicted times. It all works smoothly, plenty of space to warm up and ushered into your pen before starting. The format provides a great opportunity to push yourself from the gun, legs undergoing a sufferfest in the final hundred metres. Great camaraderie and support at this event – it would be great to see more Harriers there.

I was in Heat 10, and told at the start that the runner that sadly passed away at Chevin Park run recently would also have been racing in this Heat. A poignant moment. It was a privilege to watch the final (fastest) heat, and see Matthew Thackwray right in the thick of the lead group, finishing in an impressive 5th place.
