From Dave Robson…
May has been a bumper month for my new race challenge, with three completed…
Helvellyn & the Dodds Fell Race: Advertised by Keswick AC as 15 miles and 1337 metres ascent, this was always going to be a tough race. The course is an out and back From Threlkeld Cricket Club to Helvellyn via various ‘Dodds’, which I’m told is pretty much part of the Bob Graham route. It was a sunny day with great views across the tops and the route was easy to follow but tough to complete. I clocked it (Strava elevation and OS Map checked it) at 1670m climb, so bear this ‘bonus’ 300m+ ascent in mind if you’re going to give it a go. I was pleased with my time and 48th position on the day which just sneaked me into the top ten in the M50 category. Results
Pinhaw Fell race: A quick trip across the Lancashire border, for a fast 5 mile, Friday night fell run. Although it’s only 200m ascent and largely on tarmac it is still classified as a fell race in the FRA handbook. A competitive field, spurred on by the Red Lion beer garden faithful, created a great atmosphere. I finished 27th and 1st M50, partly due (Strava tells me) to my fastest ever 2 mile effort! Results
Up the Odda trail race: I registered last minute for this one as it was just down the road in Hawksworth. A two lap trail race which Jack Cummins won by a huge margin. Most impressive performance of the day however, may have to go to the man who ran it in inflatable dinosaur costume! Results
