A beautiful sunny day in Birmingham for this England Age Group Masters race, which I was lucky enough to qualify for last year. The camaraderie at these events is great, although the field is competitive so expectations have to be managed. The course was surprisingly enjoyable for a city centre race, with multiple twists and turns and undulations. I am ashamed to say I’ve never visited Birmingham before but that’s the good thing about running – it takes you where you might never go otherwise!
