From Alison Bennett…
The last time I was on the start line for this race was 19 years ago. I entered again as I was staying in the area, and after a phase of only short runs, decided I needed to stretch myself and rebuild confidence to race over an increased distance. I had a vague memory that the course was hilly, and sure enough the hills hadn’t gone away. The race was on quiet lanes which started with 2 miles of gentle descent followed by 4 miles of steady climbing designed to test the legs. Mile 7 had a lovely swooping descent before an uphill slog at mile 8. Despite not doing this distance for a while, I managed to pace it reasonably well. All finishers received an attractive glass coaster and post-race refreshments were available in the village hall.
