Glen Rosa Horseshoe – Sat 14 Jun 2025

From Alison Weston…

Arran Runners resurrected this race this year after a 10 year gap – it is an AL , 20 km with 1670m climbing. I’d looked across at Arran from Jura in May and thought the ridges looks spectacular.

The route is a mix of steep heathery ascent, contouring on mixed terrain, ridge running and easy scrambling. Unfortunately I couldn’t actually see any of the ridges on the day due to mist and rain but enjoyed the easy (except when wet!) scrambling up Goat Fell and the long descent down.

Disruption with the ferry service prevented a fair few from getting to the start line which was a shame as bagpipes set us off on our way. Finlay Wild was the unsurprising winner in a new record time of 2 hrs 16 minutes. I was pleased to finish in under 4 1/2 hours in 4:25 and 3rd FV50.

Hopefully with the help of Arran mountain rescue team it will continue to be an annual event now.
