Ilkley Harriers Ed Hobbs and Ellen Crombie have been selected to represent England at The Nasego World Cup in Italy on 5-6 September.
The Nasego World Cup involves two races – an uphill only over 4.2km and 1000m of ascent, then the following day it’s an up and down race over 21km and over 1300m of ascent. The team will compete in both events.
There will also be a seven nations team competition against Italy, France, Switzerland, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
This will be the third time England Athletics has sent a team to this prestigious mountain race weekend in Italy and it will be a fantastic experience, as well as a very tough weekend, for the whole team – congratulations to both Ed and Ellen from everyone at the Harriers.
The official team announcement said this about Ed: “Edward will be making his senior England debut having finished 4th in the uphill trial race to gain selection. He also finished a very impressive 4th representing GB&NI at the 2024 European Off Road Running Championships in Annecy, France, competing in the U20 Uphill race.”
Ed has won a whole host of races in 2026, including last month’s Ilkley Half Marathon.
Ellen is a relatively recent recruit to the Harriers and was the brilliant women’s winner at the 2026 Ilkley Moor Fell Race. The announcement added: “Ellen will be making her England debut after some impressive performances this season so far.
“Ellen recently competed in the Grossglockner Mountain Race, her first World Cup race in Austria, finishing 6th and followed that result with another 6th place at the Vauban World Cup race in Briancon, France a couple of weeks later.”
