Edinburgh Half Marathon – Sun 25 May 2025

From Sarah Hayes…

The weather was much better for this year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival than last year. Having done the full marathon last year, I decided the half would be more than enough this time. The route takes runners downhill from the city centre to the sea and then it’s a flat run along the coast turning back at about mile 11 to finish in the suburb of Musselburgh. Despite high winds being forecast, these would be tail winds for 11 miles. So a downhill race with the wind behind for most of the race, what could go wrong?

I kept up a good pace on the downhill section but unfortunately by mile 7 I felt exhausted.  Inspired by the Jeffers, I managed to keep up a consistent walk / run rhythm for the second half. I soaked up the atmosphere and was grateful for family and public support along the route.
