First time doing the Dick Hudson’s – definitely a learning experience… Started at the back – didn’t even know the race had started until the people in front started running! Almost removed myself from the race before it began by running headlong into the barrier.
Barrier navigated, spent the track section fighting to get through the crowds. Up the waterfall – was this the right way? Reassured by seeing Jeremy Greenwood – he always knows the way to go!
Up and over the top. Felt energised after seeing Petra cheering us on. Down the other side, quite boggy underfoot. Great atmosphere as everyone cheered on the fast men who were already on their way back – Jack Wood and a few other Ilkley vests well up there. Felt good – even managed to get my way to 3rd F. Short-lived. We turned around at the bottom and was immediately overtaken.
Laboured back up to the 12 apostles – wasn’t there a headwind on the way out?! Saw Rob Cunningham fall into a bog – sorry Rob!
Flying down the flagstones. 3rd F still in sight. Successfully down the steep steps to White Wells. Look up. Fall flat on face. Hobble to the finish feeling rather embarrassed.
Well done to all runners – particularly those who stayed upright! Thanks to all those who came out to support us.
