Caton Gala 10k – Sat 18 May

From Sally Armitage…

Today I ventured over to Caton, a small village in the Lancashire countryside, for a 10k road race. With the sole purpose of a good ‘race pace’ run to prep for upcoming larger events (to make me work hard as I struggle to do that without the buzz of a race!). I’ve taken a liking to the Lancaster Race Series events as they all offer entry on the day, ideal if you worry about losing a race entry due to illness/injury before the event! Also ideal if the weather takes a turn for the worse…

When I arrived and purchased my number the organiser told me there were 27 entries, this upped to 36 by the race start.

The race started in the centre of the village and ran straight up, 3 miles, almost to the windmills on Caton moor, with a short loop at the top, followed by 3 miles back down. I really struggled with the heat, my heart rate was higher than I’ve ever seen it. I can’t say I actually enjoyed any of it, but it’s a good training run in the bag!

I also want to note that, despite the small field, the goodies at the end included a beautiful slate medal, a long sleeved running top and a wagon wheel to all finishers, plus I bagged 3 x £10 vouchers to use on any of their races. Pretty sweet finishers treats for such a tiny race!
