Calderdale Hike – Sat 9 Apr

From Jayne Norman…

A 9am start at Sowerby bridge awaited approx 300 runners for the 3 different distances for the Calderdale Hike (16m, 26m and 36m)

It was great to see Colin Williams at the start, who was doing the 36miles… I chose the 26mile option which was advertised as 3200ft of climb!

Setting off en-masse up the hills and over to Mytholmroyd, this was the sign of things to come. We were literally up hill and down dale most of the way with the weather starting kind and cool, turning to snow at the highest point above Green Withens Reservoir by the M62 before the sun made an appearance.

For me it was like a busman’s holidays running past lots of reservoirs, a great route, but glad to finish especially with hot potatoes and a vast choice of fillings to refuel. A tough course with navigation all the way, as I clocked it at 6hrs 45 mins, with 27miles and 4900ft of ascent. No wonder I was tired…..

A great one to tick off as a different course and valley to what I would normally run.
