Having discovered on Saturday night at a comedy night that Nick Kealey’s hobby is in fact maps not running we were inspired to look at the map of the route before taking part in today’s race, this was a first for both us, and pointless as neither of us can read a map!

Setting off from Penistone Hill following multiple bikes the race was advertised as heels versus wheels, never did we think we would be passing bikes or finishing ahead of various bikes, although we did discover at the 8 mile aid station that the bikes taking part were doing different distances to us some up to 50 miles so perhaps we were not actually faster than them.

The route was beautiful either uphill or downhill some of the paths were challenging, made slightly harder by the added jeopardy of multiple mountain bikers wizzing past.

The map shows a straight line with a circle – this is totally opposite to how the route felt proving our lack of direction however we didn’t get lost as it was well signposted.

The weather was kind and we had a lovely time finishing with pie, peas, cake and lots of tea.
