From Helen Waddington…
The inaugural Brontë Half Marathon couldn’t have had a better first day, although at times it felt perhaps a little too good! This hilly trail race (just over 2000 feet of elevation) has piggy-backed on to a long-standing MTB event, which offers 3 distances for the bikes (Charlotte, Emily and Ann!), the runners being allowed to follow the bikes on the shortest route. Starting from Penistone Hill, the route took us on the lovely paths and tracks in that area, familiar to those who have done the Yorkshireman or Haworth Hobble, and formed a lollipop – which, as much as we had all enjoyed the first mile downhill proved to be not much fun on the way back up! A small field of runners for the first year, hopefully it will grow, and lovely to meet fellow IH Mary and enjoy a post-race cuppa and pie and peas in the finish field sitting in the glorious Yorkshire sun.
