On Saturday 20 July I completed the Boudicca Way 50k ultra with my brother; between Diss and Norwich on the Suffolk Norfolk borders – a very beautiful part of the country although I must admit to not fully appreciating it because it was so hot. With all the awful weather we have been having I do not know how I managed to pick the only really hot day – average temperature of 30 c throughout the run and a max of 34 c !

I ran to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust and I must admit through the tough parts and the heat that is what kept me going.

For the history buffs the Boudicca Way is a long distance footpath following the old Roman Pye road through historic south Norfolk where Queen Boudicca of the Iceni once ruled and led a revolt against Roman rule. The trail runs through ancient settlements including Anglo-Saxon villages, Caistor Roman town and beautiful villages with thatched cottages around village greens and lovely pubs; and past historic and picturesque Norman churches.

This was the first time this race has been run and I could recommend if you want a beautiful run through historic and ancient countryside and golden fields of wheat ( without the heat though). I was 2nd FV60 and 20th female out of 74 finishers and overall 84/176 finishers in 7 hrs 29 minutes.
